Associate Director Sustainability and Infrastructure

Michael is responsible for the direction and management of the Office of Sustainability and oversees the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives. He also advocates and facilitates the collaborative development of strategies for University infrastructure renewal, growth and adaptation.
Sustainability Coordinator

Margret works with groups throughout campus, including faculty, staff, and students, to explore sustainability and move forward with sustainability initiatives and projects. Margret works on facilitating campus-wide partnerships and initiatives in areas as varied as operations, research and education, community engagement and policy.
Waste Prevention Coordinator

Monica engages the university community in understanding, facilitating, and advancing initiatives that support waste prevention and reduction. Not only that, but she develops and implements programs that prevent the unnecessary waste of valuable resources in areas such as university capital projects (building deconstruction and reuse) and daily operations (recycling, composting, and purchasing). She also oversees the Campus Recycling Program and ensures our university’s resources and operations are managed sustainably.
Energy and Emissions Officer

Kathryn develops initiatives and implements strategies to conserve energy and reduce the university’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. She works towards enhancing practices on campus as they relate to energy management in such areas as facilities, campus utilities, solid waste, water, transportation, infrastructure, and equipment. Kathryn has also partnered with the university community on the Climate Action Plan and other related initiatives that strive towards achieving sustainable energy consumption on campus.
Sustainability Initiatives Liaison

Heather is responsible for working with campus units to assess existing practices and facilitate sustainability initiatives primarily benefiting the built environment. She also oversees the campus implementation of the Canada Green Building Council's rating system for building operations and maintenance, LEED for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance.

The Office of Sustainability believes that students play a critical part in sustainability. As such, they offer a number of student intern positions every year. Student responsibilities range from assisting with the U of S recycling program to engagement activities such as planning sustainability-related events and campaigns on campus.
