Fume Hoods/Exhaust Fans

To ensure proper ventilation and the safe conduct of laboratory experiments, laboratories are equipped with fume hood exhaust fans. These systems use fans to draw fumes and gases under a fume hood and out through roof stacks on the building. There are three types of exhaust system configurations: 1) a single central fan that draws air from all fume hoods located in a building; 2) multiple fans that exhaust air from two or more hoods and; 3) dedicated fans and duct work for use where exhaust from different sources cannot be mixed. Small exhaust fans are also used in kitchens and bathrooms of Residence buildings. All repairs and maintenance are performed by Facilities.
