Campus Cooling System Changeover in Progress

Friday, May 5th

Facilities Management crews are actively working on preparations to bring chillers and air conditioning online for the cooling season.

While the warmer temperatures outside are a welcome change, our interior cooling system changeover work not yet been completed, which can result in warmer temperatures in some areas. Priority efforts are directed to buildings housing animals, followed by buildings where temperature is critical for research.

It takes a number of weeks to change over all of the ventilation systems on campus from heating to cooling. The preparation work for these systems cannot proceed until overnight temperatures are consistently above freezing. Therefore, work typically needs to be initiated in early May and not earlier in the year.

For more information on the heating and cooling changeover on campus, please read the OCN article, Turning Up the Heat, Fall Changeover a Timing Challenge (https://news.usask.ca/archived_ocn/10-oct-08/index.php).
